# More website visitors: start with your name

More visitors to your website? For us, 14 of the 20 Google clicks with a visible search term came via our name. Ten ways, in the order we'd tackle them.

From 28 July through 25 October 2026, fokuus.be got 38 clicks from Google. For 20 of them Search Console shows the search term, and for 14 of those 20 it was our own name: "fokuus". Anyone who searches like that already knows us.

Of the clicks where Google shows the search term, most therefore came via our name. According to Google, the 18 clicks without a search term come from queries that are rarely made ([Google Search Central](https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2022/10/performance-data-deep-dive) ), so they may turn out differently. This is one small site, not a law of nature.

What I take from this: for a small business, I think the main way to get more visitors to your website is to let more people hear your name, through a customer, a review, a partner or an ad, and to make that name easy to find. Winning on general search terms is possible too, but it is slow. That is why the ten ways below are in this order.

Google clicks on fokuus.be over 90 days. Where Google shows the search term, it was mostly our name.

## Measure first: how many visitors already know you?

### 1. Your clicks, split into your name and the rest

Search Console shows how many clicks you get from Google, and for which search term, under Performance, in the Queries tab below the chart.

To separate your name from the rest, Search Console has a [branded and non-branded queries filter](https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/17011259?hl=nl) . Google doesn't offer it for sites with few impressions. If you don't see it, do it yourself: choose + Add filter, then Queries and Custom (regex), and type your name and the spellings you expect, separated by a vertical bar, for example `(janssens|jansens)`. With Doesn't match regex you see everything except your name ([Google](https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/17011165?hl=nl) ).

With a query filter like this, don't add the two halves up to your total: the anonymized queries, for which Google hides the search term, then drop out ([Google](https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/17011259?hl=nl) ). In our case it was 18 of the 38 clicks, almost half.

### 2. What Search Console doesn't see

A click on your name doesn't tell you where someone heard that name: from a customer, in a review or at a trade fair. Some of that you can measure; for the rest, you have to ask. For links you spread yourself, in a newsletter, a LinkedIn post or behind a QR code on a flyer, you add UTM parameters. When someone clicks on them, those values end up in the Traffic acquisition report of Google Analytics 4 ([Google](https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/10917952?hl=nl) ). Our AI check report emails carry such a label. Why you should take your GA4 figures on a small site with a pinch of salt, you can read in [our GA4 post](https://fokuus.be/en/blog/google-analytics-4/) .

Anyone who simply types your name leaves no label behind. You only know that if you ask, so ask every new customer how they found you and note it down with the enquiry.

## People who know your name should find you straight away

### 3. Search for yourself like a customer would

Of the 14 clicks on our name, 13 landed on the homepage, the fourteenth on the English About page. Anyone who types your name is no longer looking for a service, they are looking for you. Google itself writes that queries containing your brand name usually lead to higher-ranking pages and a higher click-through rate, while the others show how new people find you ([Google Search Central](https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2025/11/search-console-branded-filter) ).

So type your name into your phone, in a private window. Are you at the top? Does your homepage say in the first seconds what you do and how someone can reach you? That is a quarter of an hour's work, for visitors you have already won.

### 4. Your Business Profile: the same exercise

How to set up a Google Business Profile and get reviews for it is covered in [our guide to the Business Profile](https://fokuus.be/en/blog/google-bedrijfsprofiel-aanmaken/) . What matters here: under Performance your profile shows the search terms people used to find your business, updated at the start of each month ([Google](https://support.google.com/business/answer/9918094?hl=nl) ). Count there too how many of them are your name.

## Make sure more people hear your name

### 5. A link people can forward

In its SEO guide, Google calls word of mouth one of the most effective and lasting ways to promote your site: people who know your site tell others, who then come and have a look ([Google Search Central](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/fundamentals/seo-starter-guide) ). You can make it easier for people to spread the word.

At Arvaro, each car is entered once and appears automatically on their own website and on AutoScout24. Each car gets its own URL there, for easy sharing and for SEO. When someone forwards a car on WhatsApp, they are not forwarding the homepage but that one car. That reflex works outside the car trade too: in a quote, link to the page that fits that customer, because they may well forward it.

### 6. Partners, and where link spam begins

A partner who mentions you can send some of their visitors straight to you. Think of a supplier who lists you as an installer, your trade federation or someone you genuinely work with. Louis Van Belle, who looks after the Google Ads campaigns in our collaboration, and we link to each other: we on our page about advertising, he at the bottom of his site, which we built. That is reciprocal, but it comes from a real collaboration and tells readers on both sides something.

What Google calls link spam is something else: buying or selling links to rank higher, exchanging excessive numbers of links, or creating partner pages that exist only to link to each other ([Google's spam policies](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/essentials/spam-policies) ).

## Google for people who don't know your name yet

### 7. Is SEO still worth it? Yes, but think in months

Our own figures paint a sober picture. We got the six clicks on search terms without the name Fokuus from 13,610 impressions on 430 different search terms. One of them was "mdprint", a Fokuus product of our own. Google also counts product names such as Gmail as part of the brand, so by that definition "mdprint" could count as a brand. Of the other five, three were local: "marketingbureau kortrijk", "seo bureau kortrijk" and "webdesign kortrijk".

So is SEO still worth it? Yes, but not as a quick source of visitors. We got plenty of impressions; clicks only follow when you rank high enough, and on general terms that is slow. For a local business, I think the Business Profile and a few strong pages about your own services do most of the work.

### 8. First rewrite what already gets impressions

This post is itself an example. Since it was published in late July 2025, it has appeared 143 times in Google for "meer websitebezoekers", at an average position of 53, without a single click. When we checked on 26 October 2026, Search Console listed it as crawled but not indexed. What you are reading now is the rewritten version.

Here's how to find this yourself: go to Performance and then Pages, click on a page with impressions but few clicks, and then look under Queries to see what it appears for. If it doesn't really answer that question, rewrite it before you create a new page.

## If you want to go faster, you pay for visitors

### 9. Ads, but only with a page that persuades

When [TaxFlow](https://fokuus.be/en/cases/taxflow/) knocked on our door, a Google Ads campaign from an external partner was already running. It brought visitors in, but the website didn't get them any further: the buttons to request something only appeared at the very bottom or were missing. On the new site there is always a clear next step above the fold, and the copy is in plain language.

Ads are the fastest way to reach people who don't know your name yet, but every click costs money, including the click of someone who leaves straight away. Google Ads looks at that page too: the Quality Score assesses, among other things, your landing page experience, whether it is relevant and useful to the person who clicks ([Google Ads Help](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/6167118?hl=nl) ). According to Google, that score is a diagnostic tool, not an input in the ad auction.

### 10. One offer, one landing page

For campaigns, we work with [Lead pages](https://fokuus.be/en/websites-en-advertenties/) : we build the landing page, Louis Van Belle looks after the Google Ads campaign. This is how we work together at HM Technics: we do the website changes, Louis the ads. Anyone who clicks on an ad for one service lands on a page about that service and doesn't have to search through your whole site. And anyone who saw your ad and later types your name counts in step 1 as a click on your name.

## How you can tell whether it works

Repeat step 1 every four weeks and note two numbers: clicks on your name and clicks on the rest. According to Google, some changes show up in the search results after a few hours, others only after months, so only judge a change after [a few weeks](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/fundamentals/seo-starter-guide) . That is why you compare four-week periods with each other, using Compare in the Search Console date filter, and not day by day.

Our baseline measurement for this post: from 28 September through 25 October 2026, fokuus.be got 19 clicks from Google, 12 with a visible search term, and 9 of those on "fokuus".

If the clicks on your name grow, then what you do outside the regular search results is working, and the answers from step 2 tell you which part. If the others grow, your SEO is starting to pay off.
